A Week with Entrecard

Posted on February 5th, 2008 as Site News, Social Networking

A little over a week ago I decided to finally join the Entrecard wave and put a widget on my site. I have been watching my traffic and wanted to share my experiences so far. I added the code to my website the 21st of January. I started with a basic design since I am still working on a logo for my site and have not advertised on any site yet. So far I have had 33 visits that accounts for 2.2% percentage of my traffic. Now here comes the kicker quality of traffic. Right now for traffic my Bounce Rate is 87.88% and the average time on my site is 30 seconds. My first impressions of Entrecard are not too high. I have gotten some traffic but it seems to be low quality. I am going to keep trying it but if the traffic stays like this I might take it off my site. I hope once I start advertising more now that I have built up some credits I will get some better quality traffic.

If you use Entrecard I would like to hear your opinions. Also make sure to check me out at Entrecard and drop your card.

I’ve been with EntreCard since about the time it went live and while in the beginning it brought in some traffic the average time from those referrals was around 30 seconds..

Basically the problem is that a lot of people are just gaming the system and artificially inflating the value of their advertising by dropping 300ec’s a day. Do it for a few days and you build up uber ec’s and you can afford to advertise on a blog that has 20 visits a day..doesn’t make sense to me.

Of course you do also have the legit sites like Problogger where his advertising price is where you would expect it to be for such a high profile blog however I think EntreCard will go the way of BlogRush and other similar widgets that aimed to bring in traffic.

I am using entrecard aswell, but maybe I can´t really evaluate about the quality of traffic, since my blog is only a few weeks old. The time visitors spent on my site when coming from entrecards ranges from only a second it takes to drop and leave, to actually staying on my site well over 10 minutes. I have noticed a rise in comments aswell.

The best thing though and the main reason for using entrecard is the sitehopping, since using their system I have come across some very interesting blogs!

Entrecard has been very good to me (and my blogs).

It ranks as a top referrer, right next to Blog Catalog and Stumble Upon. I highly recommend it, also as Miriam said its great for discovering new blogs and mayne new partners.

Keep it on atleast a few months, before you evaluate it. Sure you will get the card droppers, but you will also get those who will check out your blog, leave a comment, and maybe even click an ad.

You never know where (or when) a good reader will come upon you.

    Missy.

@ Matt I agree with you I see another blogrush product in the works. I hope they can make it better but I don’t see that happening since it is more of an honor system and people inflating their numbers by dropping cards. Thanks for the comment too.

@ Mirjam I am glad you are getting some comments and some benefits from it. I think in a perfect world it is a good idea but you always have the people spamming who take away from a good product like this. Thanks for the comments and I hope you like the site.

@ Missy Thanks for the comment. Yeah I am going to keep using it and giving updates on traffic quality. I hope I start to see more benefits as time goes on and maybe they will fix what I don’t like about it.

    Hi again Bud,
I know what you mean by the spamming bit, but… running a contest for the top commentator kind of has the same danger to it, don´t you agree? I do like your site, I have been looking around for a while (did I already tell you I came across it because of entrecard??)

I guess in the end, we all need to find for ourselves what works out best, and that depends a lot of the goals we have with our own blogs. I have just blogged about something that I am getting out of blogging right now that I had not expected at all when first starting out and you might be surprised to see it has nothing to do with stats ;)

keep up the good work and have a nice weekend!

@ Mirjam In some ways running a top commenter contest is semi spamming. With proper promoting though I have had better luck with it. I have double my comments and picked up a few rss subscribers. You are completely right about finding out what works for you and your blog. Finding your grove is a hard process and I still am trying to get in the the “blogger mindset”.

Also congratulations on your blog I hope it keeps growing. Thanks for the comments and the positive statements. Have a good weekend too.

It all depends on what your expectations of Entrecard are. The quality of traffic is low, but it’s good for a new blogger looking to boost their traffic levels and alexa rank. Once a blog becomes more popular, it’s likely that the referred traffic are already readers of the blog!

I just wanted to let you know about a site called powerdropping.com . It’s got a list of 300 blogs to drop your entrecard at, that have a fast loading time and the entrecard widget above the fold. He claims he gets 10 000 vistors a day and an extra 9000 credits a month from doing this!
