Going digital: goodbye cd’s and dvd’s

Posted on January 4th, 2008 as Projects

My collection of cd’s and dvd’s keeps growing and is past the point of getting out of hand. Right now I own about 200-250 dvd’s and I am not even sure how many cd’s. It seems like they are breeding because they are all over. I did some thinking on ideas and I have decided that I am going to copy all of my music and movies and put them into digital form and box up all of my physical discs in the attic or spare closet.

Lucky I already have a fileserver setup and have extra storage. I will have to pick up some more hard drives as I get further into this project put I have 500 GB free so I imagine this will hold me over for the time being. Over the past few days I have started coping discs using anydvd for movies and eac for cd’s.

To play my music and movies through my house I have two media center computers, one hooked to each television. Also I have a nice set of speakers hooked to my computer for music and movies if I feel like watching them on a smaller screen. In my car I have an pioneer ipod ready car stereo so I just hook a cable to my ipod that sits in my glove box so I can listen to my music and charge my ipod at the same time.

All in all I think it will be nice once I am finished. My music was mostly completed since I have an ipod but still have around 50-80 discs left and my movie collection I have only scratched the surface. I am excited to get it done so I do 1-2 movies a night sometimes more.
