How do you use social networks?

Web 2.0 City
I was in a restaurant the other night and ran into an old from high school. What was funny was my friend mentioned we should stay in contact and he gave me his MySpace address. Instead of giving me his number is was just easier to give me his MySpace address. It just made me pause and think how social networks have become part of daily life. I heard a forecast that was made at CES that 1.2 billion people will be using social networks by 2012

It is very common to go to a blog and see at least one icon or plug in that links to some sort of social site. It might be a button for users to dig an article or a plug in that shows recent readers if they are a member of mybloglog. Or if you see a new movie trailer instead of website address they tell you a MySpace page

It got me interested which social networks do you use and what do you use them for?

Personally I use Twitter (my personal favorite right now), StumbleUpon, Technorati, Mybloglog, and Facebook. The main reasons I use them is to meet new people but to draw new readers to my site. When I find new friends through these sites normally they check out my blog and even sometimes leave a comment. For me that is a great tool to have since I am working on building a reader base.

So leave a comment how you use social networks.

So in 2012 do you think Facebook will still be popular. Im sure the public moved onto new type of social networks - im guessing virtual world like social networks maybe the next big thing(some exist now like that http://cyworld.com & http://sleep.fm ).

I think StumbleUpon will be hugely popular by 2012 - a new way to search. I use it to search when google fails.

@Jon You never know what sites will be around, especially 4 years down the road. I think Facebook is a nice site but honestly don’t find anything to unique or entertaining about it. I do agree that virtual sites will become more popular with time, a good example is Second Life.

I use Myspace and Facebook, both created recently. All of my friends were using them, so I thought I might as well spend a couple minutes signing up.

I’ve got to say, I was a myspace user until facebook started hitting mainstream.

Since then I have never gone back to the loud music, annoying animations, and poorly coded pages of myspace. *shudders even thinking about it*
