Nearly a year after it launches Microsoft Vista is still plagued with headaches, crashes, and slowness. Since Vista was first announced it has been plagued with delays. After 5 years from its original announcement, Vista was finally released. That makes Vista one of the longest developed operating systems in the Windows family.
After Vista was released hardware vendors fought to be able to continue to offer machines with XP instead of Vista. After enough upset from manufactures Microsoft extended the date for them to offer XP for 5 months moving the date of January 31, 2007 to June 30, 2007. Microsoft also stated they would also keep XP as a standalone product on stores shelves longer as well. Some manufactures are also offering if you a buy a pc with Vista business or ultimate you can downgrade your product to Windows XP.
Most of the tech websites and tech forums do not rate Vista highly. Vista has been nicknamed Windows ME II on multiple sites. Also on tech sites when doing benchmarks with current programs XP is still faster but they say with updates on the software’s end Vista will trade places. Also with service pack 1 for Vista close to being released maybe we will some better stability and performance.
Right now my desktop and laptop both have Vista and there are some days I wish XP was installed. It has gotten better with time; especially since drivers have had better support. When I first installed Vista Ultimate on my desktop I was forced to run a lot of beta drivers and my pc was 3-6 months old at the time. The thing that bothered me for a while was my video card, I run an 8800gts and stable drivers didn’t become stable until mid year of 2007.
I wanted to hear about your experiences or thoughts about Vista. Do you have it and enjoy running it? Do you loathe it and run XP? Do you deal with it since it came preinstalled?
