Who Should You Trust?

Posted on March 18th, 2008 as Marketing

I am always on the lookout for new ideas or products such as ebooks, plr packs, or ppc offers items in hope of finding something new and interesting to make money with or blog about (if I am really lucky both). The problem is most of the big offers are mentioned repeatedly across several different blogs writing the same thing. The overall message will be join pepperjam network, rocket profit, and others just like it and you will make money online. These sites might have awesome deals that really help a newcomer make money online but the catch is why should you read the same pitch and idea across 15 sites?

The answer is you shouldn’t. Depending on how trustworthy the sites are to you after the third or fourth blog you will probably eyeball the advertiser’s site to see the details and more than likely purchase the sign-up. If you are still unsure you might go to sites that have more authority in that area or a blog you like and see if they made mention of it. But why would you trust some site that has been around six months to a year that you have never heard of?

The reason why is they were in your shoes very recently or still are. They know how you feel and how to describe how they achieved some success and are still growing or maybe share how they failed. The catch with bigger sites is they made money and succeeded but are they still reproducing these things? If you look at Shoemoney he made his start in ringtones and made a name for himself. Now he lives off name and his previous success not what he is currently doing. Zac Johnson is another good example he made his money from a MySpace add on site and is doing the same thing as Shoemoney; he is making money from his name. Am I saying in these two examples they are morons and know nothing about today’s trends? NO, all I am saying is their claim to fame is from sites or offers that happened 3-4 years ago. They still could be pulling in good amounts from doing different offers but their claims to success have been from past dealings.

Now I have you thrown off on whom to trust the big sites with it 10,000 rss subscribers or the little guy with maybe 150 subscribers. What I am trying to convey is don’t always run to the big boys just because you have heard of their name or think they have all of the answers. Look around and do your research before using a advertiser or buy a ebook. Sadly though sometimes you have to just bite the bullet and try things out for yourself and see what works.

Thanks for the thoughts… I’ve been in the same position myself. What with all these hyper launches these days one starts to get a bit jaded when people start making claims of their accomplishments or earnings on the internet.

Lately though I’ve started to see guys like Mike Filsaime go into great detail about what they made in specific time frames, or for all of 2007, etc as a method to indicate they’re still relevant.

The truly great internet marketers will be standing on top of their previous achievements and doing bigger and better things each year.

Still, if those other guys you mentioned are able to make boatloads resting on their past achievements, I think most of us would do the same if given the chance!

You make an excellent point, Bud! So many people just trust the big boys because everyone else does, and then it turns into a never ending cycle. I think a lot of the smaller blogs have a ton more to offer than John Chow does.

The big boys are also giving good reviews of these products with their affiliate links in the hope that you buy and make money for them in the process. So can you really trust their reviews?

Bud, I love how you said “The reason why is they were in your shoes very recently or still are”..This is not always reliable, but nevertheless, the newcomers are the ones with the most to prove. They seem to strive the hardest and if they’ve dome their homework, they understand the benefits of being reliable and consistent. If they are wise, they are carving out a niche of their own and adding new flame to the blogosphere fire to improve upon their niche.

They are tomorrows big dogs. I absolutely hate seeing people allow themselves to be caught up by the big dog rockstar appeal. It seems they are easily led into being followers as opposed to designing for themselves a name. Riding coattails is not the way to go.

This post is similar to what I’ve been discussing on my blog as well. Thanks for the read.

(sheesh, and all I did was come in here to drop on your Entrecard.)
